March 31, 2017 – Atlanta-area road closures due to a collapse of parts of I-85 on March 30 are requiring a re-thinking of delivery schedules in and around the Atlanta area.
A significant fire under the I-85 overpass collapsed a large portion of the interstate and has also severely damaged the road in both directions, requiring the DOT to close the interstate indefinitely.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported. Additionally, the affected area is was inside the I-285 Atlanta Bypass, which is required for commercial truck traffic. Unfortunately, the re-direction of traffic has impacted the already high volume of traffic the bypass already experiences.
