A local parcel firm received an unusual parcel request as one of their drivers collected the Olympic torch from Loughborough University.
Parcelrite Ltd, part of the APC Overnight network were asked to collect the 64-year old torch from the university’s Flames Lighting the Way offices and transport it through APC Overnight’s national sortation centre to Dundee, where it featured in a recreation of the 1948 torch relay, involving schools across the UK.
The torch, which is valued at £5,000, was collected by local driver Dave Sanders on behalf of APC Overnight – the UK’s largest overnight parcel delivery company.
Julie Strong, depot principal for Parcelrite Ltd, said: “We were delighted and honoured to collect the 1948 Olympic Torch for Dundee City Council. With Olympic Torch fever sweeping the nation, it was good to be part of a relay of our very own!
