Bucharest, 6 July 2012 – Dynamic Parcel Distribution (DPD) Romania, one of the most important parcels and express courier services in the region, is proud to launch COD International, the only service available to Romanian courier businesses for online shopping for the sales of products to the emerging markets of Hungary and Bulgaria.
COD International is a special service based on the business model of online shopping, which allows fast and easy international shipment of parcels, with the possibility of payment on delivery of the items transported.
The DPD courier collects payment for the payment at the time of delivery, which is transferred directly into the online shopping account. COD International guarantees a maximum delivery time of 2 days, and bank transfers in 48 hours. Among the service facilities provided are: financial reports and customised shipping status reports, automatic insurance for up to 10 times the value of the transport, online tracking covering the complete life cycle of the shipment, with proof of delivery available online.
Launched following an investment of some 50,000 Euro, DPD Romania’s COD service is currently available for shipments to Hungary and Bulgaria, the two countries with the fastest growing appetite for online shopping from Romania.
In the words of Alin Gherman, DPD Romania’s Marketing Manager: “There has been a real boom in electronic trading in recent years, which has also been the main factor driving growth in the local courier market. So the decision to make a special service available for online shopping to help courier services extend their business in the region was a natural choice for us. The service is initially being offered for shipments to Hungary and Bulgaria, countries with a pronounced interest for Romanian online shopping offers. In future, when the Romanian online shopping offer starts to attract other countries, we will extend this service to other emerging markets such as Poland, the Czech Republic or Slovakia.”
Since its launch in 2012, DPD International has acquired some 5% of DPD Romania’s portfolio of online shopping customers and anticipates being used by 15% by the end of the year.
The COD International service is successfully used by the majority of regions covered by DPD in countries including Germany, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary.
DPD Romania, part of the Geopost group and a La Poste subsidiary, ended 2011 with a turnover of 36 million lei, up 20% on the previous year and with a market share of 7%.
For 2012 the company has budgeted more than 800,000 Euros for the launch of IT4EM, DPD Romania’s new IT system which has been adapted 100% to the specific requirements of the emerging markets, so that DPD’s customers can benefit from the latest generation communication, technology and infrastructure.
In 2011 DPD joined the online services market with dpdonline.ro, the only platform in Romania currently offering the possibility to place orders electronically and with card payment.
